Nicosia: An increase of 1.2% was recorded for the period January-June 2026 in the industrial production index, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to a press release of the Cyprus Statistical Service on Friday. In June specifically, the Industrial Production Index reached an increase of 0.3% compared to June 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the manufacturing sector registered an increase of 0.6% compared to June 2025. An increase was also observed in mining and quarrying (+11.4%) and water supply and materials recovery (+1.5%). A negative change was observed in the electricity supply sector (-4.0%).
In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to June 2025 were observed in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (+7.5%) and the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products (+4.7%). The largest negative changes were observed in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (-8.5%), the manufacturing of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (-2.4%) and the manufacturing of furniture, other manufacturing and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-2.3%).
When comparing the rates of change for the period January-June 2026 against the corresponding period of the previous year, it is noted that the most significant positive changes were observed in water collection, treatment and supply (+11.5%), the manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+5.1%), electricity supply (+4.3%), the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (+3.4%) and the manufacturing of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture (+3.2%).
In addition, the activities where the most significant negative changes in production were registered compared to the period January-June 2025 were those relating to materials recovery (-8.8%), the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (-5.9%) and the manufacturing of furniture, other manufacturing and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-4.2%).
