Nicosia: The Cyprus Police are implementing increased security measures in preparation for the upcoming Informal Meeting of Heads of State of the European Union, scheduled for April 23-24, 2026. This event is part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the security measures will include traffic arrangements and prohibitions across the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta. During the two-day summit, road closures will occur for brief periods on both urban roads and major motorways, including the Nicosia - Larnaca and Larnaca - Ayia Napa routes.

Specific areas affected by the closures include Ayia Napa Marina on April 23 from 16:00 to 23:00, and the Conference Centre in Nicosia on April 24 from 07:30 to 18:00. Additionally, Agia Thekla Avenue and surrounding roads near Ayia Napa Marina will be closed on the afternoon of April 23, while Aglantzia Avenue in Nicosia will be inaccessible on April 24.

For safety, the Search and Rescue Coordination Center, in collaboration with the Police, has issued a NAVTEX (number NW 120/26) establishing a no-navigation zone around Ayia Napa Marina from 16:00 to 23:00 on April 23. Furthermore, a decree from the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works prohibits the use of drones throughout Cyprus on April 23-24.
