Nicosia: House President Annita Demetriou welcomed EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, to the House of Representatives on Monday. During their meeting, Demetriou emphasized the significance of Tzitzikostas’s portfolio, highlighting that both transport and tourism are crucial pillars of Cyprus’s economy.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Demetriou assured the Commissioner of the Parliament’s commitment to collaborate closely with the European Commission. This cooperation aims to deliver tangible benefits for both the populace and the economy, particularly in light of Cyprus’s upcoming Presidency of the European Union in 2026.
The Commissioner outlined various initiatives he has spearheaded within his role, along with strategies the European Commission plans to implement. The two leaders also shared perspectives on pressing issues of mutual interest, including the European security and defence architecture, regional stability, and the European Green Deal.
