House President Emphasizes Essential Role of Internal Auditors

Nicosia: Internal auditors play a vital role in safeguarding values, such as integrity and compliance, President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou has said at the Cyprus Internal Audit Forum. “Today, more than ever, the world demands transparency. Citizens expect openness from public institutions, investors demand accountability from businesses, and international partners look for assurances of integrity and compliance,” she said at the Forum that is taking place in Nicosia on Tuesday. Internal auditors, therefore, she pointed out, play a vital role in safeguarding all of these values.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Demetriou emphasized that internal auditors are “the guarantors of independent insight and assurance that the systems we rely on are functioning properly and serving the public good.” Referring to the Parliament, she said that “we recognise that good governance and strong institutions form the cornerstone of national progress. Our legislative agenda consistently supports initiatives that enhance transparency, strengthen accountability, and align Cyprus with international standards of ethical conduct and corporate governance.”

The work of internal auditors complements these efforts by ensuring that the spirit of these laws is upheld in practice, she went on to say. Concluding, she acknowledged the contribution of the Institute of Internal Auditors of Cyprus over the years, saying that since its foundation, back in 1998 and now boasting over 540 members, through its training programs, professional standards, and vision of being the fundamental institution that represents, promotes and develops the professional practice of internal auditing in Cyprus.
