Holguin Arrives in Cyprus for Key Talks with President Christodoulides

Nicosia: The UNSG’s Personal Envoy Mara ngela Holgun Cu©llar is scheduled to arrive in Cyprus on Sunday, ahead of significant talks with leaders from both sides of the divided island. Her visit is a preparatory step for the upcoming informal expanded meeting set to take place in New York on July 16-17.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Holgun is expected to meet with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, on Monday at 11 am. However, a meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, has yet to be confirmed.

Cyprus has been a divided nation since 1974, following Turkey’s invasion and occupation of the northern third of the island. The upcoming informal meeting at the UN headquarters in New York was announced by the UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric. This gathering is intended to provide an opportunity for dialogue and to review the progress made since March.
