Nicosia: The Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties, participating in the monthly bicommunal meetings at Ledra Palace Hotel under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy, have paid tribute to Katie Clerides. Clerides was a long-standing and dedicated member of the forum, and parties expressed their deep sadness over her passing.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Katie Clerides passed away two days ago at the age of 76. Among her various roles, she served as a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Rally (DISY). Her passing has been met with tributes from both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
A joint communiqu© from the leaders and representatives of the parties highlighted that “Katie had earned the respect of Cypriots in both communities for her sincere concern and continuous efforts for the solution of the Cyprus problem and for building trust between the two communities.” Her commitment to fostering peace and understanding was widely recognized and appreciated.
“In the words of one of our members, ‘Cyprus has lost a great treasure.’ We all offer our condolences to her family and loved ones,” the joint statement added, underlining the significant impact Clerides had on both communities and the collective mourning of her loss.
