Athens: A joint statement under the 3+1 format was issued following today’s Ministerial Energy Conference between Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the United States in Athens. The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the four countries to strengthening energy security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the energy ministers of the Republic of Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and the United States, along with the co-chairs of the U.S. National Energy Security Council, met today at the Zappeion Hall. Their discussions focused on the further development of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Hub. The ministers reiterated their support for existing and future interconnection projects within the framework of the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor, as well as for enhanced cooperation on the protection of critical energy infrastructure.
The joint statement disclosed that the four ministers committed to further utilizing the 3+1 framework to promote energy source diversification and reduce dependence on ‘malicious actors.’ They also condemned ‘Russia’s efforts to circumvent oil sanctions and finance the ongoing war in Ukraine’ and stressed the importance of energy transparency and compliance with international law.
Finally, the ministers confirmed their commitment to further cooperation on energy infrastructure projects connecting Europe and Israel, with the aim of strengthening regional integration and energy independence. “The ministers intend to meet in Washington in the second quarter of 2026 to further strengthen energy cooperation between their countries within the framework of the Eastern Mediterranean 3+1 Energy Dialogue,” the joint statement concluded.
