Nicosia: Total employment in the government sector rose to 52,661 in August 2025, marking an increase of 209 persons or 0.4% compared to the same month in 2024. This data was released on Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, employment in the Educational Service witnessed a rise of 5.0%, while the Civil Service and Security Forces saw declines of 0.9% and 2.4%, respectively. The largest increase of 8.3% was among Temporary Employees, whereas Permanent Employees experienced a decrease of 6.3%.
In terms of service categories, Temporary Employees in the Educational Service recorded a significant increase of 20.4%. Conversely, Temporary Employees in the Security Forces experienced a sharp decline of 70.6%. The drop in the Security Forces is mainly due to the completion and non-renewal of specific fixed-term contracts in July 2025.
For the period of January to August 2025, the average level of total government employment rose by 0.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
