Nicosia: Cypriot judoka Yiannis Antoniou won the gold medal in the +100kg category at the Lima Grand Prix in Peru on Monday, just a few days after claiming gold at the Commonwealth Games. According to Cyprus News Agency, in the final, the Cypriot champion defeated Mikita Sviryd from Croatia. Yiannis Antoniou expressed his joy and sense of accomplishment following the victory. "I'm just really happy right now. I think this is the best result of my career and I feel really proud of all the hard work I've done to reach this point. Most importantly for me, this is a big step closer to Olympic qualification and this is my main dream," he told the International Judo Federation.
