Nicosia: The risk of forest fires breaking out and spreading on Saturday, August 1, will remain at a 'Red Alert' level, the Department of Forests announced in a press release on Friday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Forests emphasized that under the Forests Law and the Law on the Prevention and Extinction of Fires in Open Country, causing a fire is a serious offense that carries severe penalties. The department is urging the public to exercise extreme caution during their outdoor activities to prevent any actions that could lead to a fire outbreak.
The statement also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and avoid any activities that could potentially ignite a fire. The department stressed the importance of public cooperation in preventing fires during this critical period.
Furthermore, the department advised that if anyone notices smoke or a fire, they should immediately contact the authorities by calling 1407 for the Forest Department or 112 for the Fire Service. This quick reporting can help prevent minor incidents from escalating into uncontrollable fires.
