Copenhagen: The issue of the continued illegal detention of five Greek Cypriots by Turkish occupying forces was highlighted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, during his intervention at the Informal Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union (Gymnich). The meeting took place in Copenhagen between August 29 and 30.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the EU Foreign Ministers had the opportunity to exchange views on current international developments during the Council. Key topics included the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the EU sanctions imposed on Russia.
Discussions at the meeting also centered around the situation in the Middle East, with particular focus on developments in Gaza and Iran. The Informal Council was hosted by Denmark, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the ongoing six-month period.
