Nicosia: The Fire Service has issued a public appeal urging individuals to exercise extreme caution and avoid activities that could lead to fires, as current conditions pose a heightened risk for fire outbreaks and their subsequent spread.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Fire Service's statement emphasizes the importance of promptly reporting any signs of smoke, fire, or activities that might cause a fire. Citizens are encouraged to contact the Fire Service at 112 or the Department of Forests at 1407 if they notice any suspicious activities or behaviors that could be linked to the ignition of a fire.
The statement highlights that lighting fires in rural and forested areas is strictly forbidden. Activities such as using tools or agricultural machinery that produce sparks, heat, or flames, including grinders and welding equipment, as well as improper disposal of lit cigarette ends, are prohibited due to their potential to start fires with devastating impacts on the environment, property, and human lives.
The appeal concludes by stressing the need for cooperation and responsibility from everyone to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
