Famagusta Gate Restoration to Conclude by End of 2025, Culture Minister Announces

Nicosia: The maintenance and upgrading project of the Famagusta Gate in Nicosia is set to be completed by the end of the year, as stated by the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, following her visit to the monument.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Dr. Kassianidou highlighted the significance of the Famagusta Gate, describing it as one of Nicosia’s most important monuments with a history dating back to the 16th century. The initial phase of maintenance, managed by the Department of Antiquities, concluded in 2023, and the second phase of restoration is now set to commence.

The objective of the restoration is to ready the monument for visitors and enable its use for various functions, aligning with its historical usage. Dr. Kassianidou expressed optimism about completing the project by the year’s end to facilitate its availability during the Cyprus EU Presidency.
