Nicosia:Europe faces a technology gap resulting from years of investment inertia, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nicodemos Damianou, stated during a discussion panel at the Cyprus Forum in Nicosia, focusing on Europe's digital sovereignty.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Damianou emphasized that Europe's technology gap is attributed to historical inertia in investments. He highlighted the need for Europe to balance regulatory aspects, technological sovereignty, and economic and technological urgency.
Damianou noted that Europe remains slow in decision-making processes. He warned against advancing policies that may exclude certain geographies or solutions, as it could lead to significant risks of disruption.
He further explained that technology development begins with skilling, innovation, and funding, which collectively create an ecosystem. Without this ecosystem, Europe risks falling behind in technological advancements.
