Nicosia: European University Cyprus (EUC), in collaboration with the Holy Archdiocese of Kykkos, the Cyprus Medical Association, and the ‘Apostolos Loukas’ Medical Center, is organizing a public information day focused on cataract awareness and treatment. The event is titled ‘Cataract: Modern Diagnosis and Treatment’ and is part of the World Sight Day celebrations. It will be held at the Cultural Center of European University Cyprus on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the aim of the information day is to enhance awareness among the public and healthcare professionals about the latest techniques in cataract diagnosis and treatment. The event will highlight technological advancements and the challenges faced in Cyprus and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
Distinguished keynote speakers have been invited to share their expertise. These include Dr. Ioannis Aslanides, President of the Hellenic College of Ophthalmology and Medical Director of Emmetropia S.A.; Dr. Anastasios Kanellopoulos, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Scientific Director of LaserVision; Dr. Paraskevi Choleva, Paediatric Ophthalmologist at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital; Dr. Serafeim Antonakis, Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Southampton University Hospital; and Dr. Avraam Renos, General Practitioner and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nicosia.
The topics addressed at the event will cover modern diagnostic techniques, new interventional treatments, and advances in cataract surgery with combined procedures. This initiative underscores European University Cyprus’s commitment to advancing public health in Cyprus and establishing the country as a center for medical knowledge and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
By fostering collaboration between medical experts, institutions, and the community, EUC aims to enhance awareness, prevention, and treatment in the field of ophthalmology. The event is open to the public and will be conducted in Greek. Doors will open at 09:30, with the event starting at 10:00.
