The European Parliament condemns Azerbaijan’s repression of activists, journalists and opposition leaders, at home and abroad, criticises the energy partnership with the EU, seeks the withdrawal of troops from the entirety of Armenia’s territory and also deplores the country’s position on the Cyprus problem and its steps regarding the participation of the Turkish occupied areas in meetings of the Organisation of Turkic states, according to a resolution adopted on Thursday.
In the resolution, adopted by 453 votes in favour, 31 against with 89 abstentions, MEPs deplore steps taken by Azerbaijan towards the ‘secessionist entity in occupied Cyprus’ as being against international law and the provisions of UN Security Council Resolutions.
The European Parliament calls on Azerbaijan to respect the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and to not invite the secessionist entity in occupied Cyprus to any meetings of the Organization of Turkic States.
