Amman: The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, along with the President of the European Council, Ant³nio Costa, is set to visit Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon this week. This visit follows the adoption of the Pact for the Mediterranean, which aims to enhance cooperation, prosperity, and stability in the region.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the leaders will commence their visit in Amman on Thursday, where they will meet with His Majesty King Abdullah II for the inaugural EU-Jordan Summit. This summit will reaffirm the European Union's commitment to Jordan as a key strategic partner in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The discussions will focus on reviewing the progress of the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, signed a year ago, and setting priorities for future collaboration.
On Friday, Presidents von der Leyen and Costa will travel to Damascus to engage with President al-Sharaa, aiming to deepen political ties and economic engagement with Syria. The European Union remains committed to supporting Syria's recovery, reconstruction, and civil peace efforts.
Later on Friday, the two leaders will head to Beirut to meet with President Aoun. The focus of this meeting will be to further strengthen the EU-Lebanon partnership, with a particular emphasis on promoting prosperity, security, and stability in the region.
