European Commission Launches pound 2.25 Million Call for Proposals to Support Civil Society in Cyprus

Nicosia: The European Commission has announced a pound 2,250,000 call for proposals aimed at supporting civil society organisations (CSOs) throughout Cyprus, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the Turkish Cypriot community, according to a press release issued by the European Commission.

According to Cyprus News Agency, this initiative represents the tenth edition of the 'Cypriot Civil Society in Action' grant programme, which has been a long-standing effort to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive civil society that aligns with European Union values and standards. The programme is designed to empower civil society actors and contribute to building bridges between communities, supporting the broader objective of Cyprus reunification.

Since 2007, the European Commission has allocated pound 19.78 million to civil society in Cyprus through successive calls for proposals. More than 160 organisations have benefited from these funds, implementing projects that encourage dialogue, strengthen participation in democratic life, and promote cooperation across communities.

The new call for proposals is organized around three distinct funding streams, each targeting a specific aspect of civil society development. The first stream focuses on strengthening civil society in the Turkish Cypriot community, encouraging socio-economic change through participation in decision-making and fostering cooperation at both local and EU levels. The second stream is dedicated to bi-communal confidence-building actions, promoting dialogue and collaboration among Cypriot communities through joint actions. Lastly, the call aims to encourage new applicants, particularly those who have not recently benefited from EU grants.

The call for proposals is restricted, requiring applicants to submit concept notes initially. The deadline for submission is June 16, 2026, at 15:00 Brussels time (16:00 Cyprus time). Guidelines for grant applicants and related documents are available online at the European Commission's funding and tenders portal under the reference 185928.

Information sessions and training for potential applicants will occur both online and on-site during April and May 2026. Details and support can be found on websites such as and civicspace.eu, or requested via email at [email protected]. The initiative is funded by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and implemented by the European Commission.
