Nicosia: The European Commission has disbursed £3.47 billion to Ukraine, as part of the £90 billion Ukraine Support Loan, to address urgent military needs. This funding is intended to bolster Ukraine's defence capabilities through the procurement of drones, missiles, air defence systems, and Gripen fighter jets in response to ongoing aggression from Russia.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this allocation marks another tranche in the support programme, focusing on enhancing Ukraine's access to critical defence equipment. The initiative aims to expedite the delivery of necessary military resources to fortify Ukraine's airspace defence and overall military capacity against external threats. The disbursement is part of a larger strategy that includes additional support for drones, ammunition, and air defence, expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
The European Commission's financial support is a continuation of previous disbursements, including a £3.2 billion allocation under the Macro-Financial Assistance programme on June 25, and subsequent payments of £3.9 billion and £1.1 billion on June 30 and July 15, 2026, respectively. The Commission plans to disburse £28.3 billion in 2026 to support Ukraine's defence industry, with allocations finalised by September and disbursements continuing throughout the year.
