Paralimni: The European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup 2025 was held on Saturday in Paralimni, Famagusta district, hosted by the Municipality of Paralimni – Deryneia and organized in collaboration with the European and the Cyprus Swimming Federations.
According to Cyprus News Agency, ‘this is the largest swimming event and one of the most important international sports events ever hosted in Cyprus, taking place at Fig Tree Bay beach in Protaras.’
In the 10-kilometer race, in the men’s category, the gold medal was won by Italian Andrea Filadelli, the silver by fellow Italian Pasquale Angelo Giordano, and the bronze by Hungarian Hunor Kovacs Seres. In the women’s category, the gold medal was claimed by Polish swimmer Klaudia Tarasiewicz, while the silver and bronze went to Italians Giulia Berton and Iris Menchini, respectively.
In total, 100 escorts and officials and 90 athletes, including world champions, from 16 countries were registered for the Cup, including Cypriots Yiannis Ergatoudes and Antreas Gavriil.
It is noted that ‘the event in Protaras is the first of five stages, with four more races to follow on the European calendar in Setºbal, Paris, Barcelona, and Razanac.’
The President of the European Swimming Federation, Antonio Silva, Secretary Noam Zvi, and members of the European technical committees, who were appointed as heads of the competition, attended the event.
