Nicosia: The European Commission Representation in Cyprus is set to celebrate Europe Day on May 9 and 10 with a series of events in Nicosia and Paphos.
According to Cyprus News Agency, European citizens will commemorate Europe Day on May 9, marking the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, a significant milestone that laid the groundwork for the European Union and ushered in a new era of prosperity, peace, democracy, solidarity, and cooperation across Europe.
To honor this occasion, various events are planned in EU Member States and globally, engaging citizens from all walks of life. The EU institutions will open their doors, inviting citizens to explore their operations and participate in educational and entertaining activities. Specifically, the European Commission Representation in Cyprus is co-organizing events on May 9 and 10.
On Friday, May 9, a reception for the Diplomatic Corps, state officials, associated organizations, and stakeholders will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Kastelliotissa Hall in Nicosia. The event will feature speeches by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Kostas Kadis, and MEP Loukas Fourlas (EPP). A reception will follow the European Union flag ceremony, initiated by the Municipality of Nicosia at the old town hall (Eleftheria Square) earlier in the morning.
As part of the Europe Day 2025 celebration, the European Commission Representation will co-organize an event at Ledra Palace in Nicosia on Saturday, May 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will include over 50 information stands featuring EU member states, co-funded projects, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. The program will be complemented by live music and dance performances.
In collaboration with the Municipality of Paphos, a festive event will also be held in Paphos on Saturday, May 10, for the general public at 28th October Square, between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The cultural segment will commence at 7:00 p.m. with the Paphos Philharmonic Orchestra and welcome speeches, followed by a concert celebrating 100 years since the birth of Mikis Theodorakis and a traditional dance program.
A side event will occur at Kennedy Square in Paphos from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring various stands from EU programs, stakeholders, and participating EU embassies, offering useful information and materials for the public.
