EU Pledges Full Support for UN’s Cyprus Solution Efforts

Nicosia: The European Union has expressed its full commitment to supporting the United Nations in resolving the long-standing Cyprus issue, as stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This announcement came after her meeting with the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, held in Paris during the July 14 celebrations.

According to Cyprus News Agency, von der Leyen emphasized the EU's readiness to align its efforts with the UN framework, adhering to the principles, values, and legislation of the EU. The European Commission President highlighted the appointment of Raffaele Fitto, the Executive Vice President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms, as the special representative for the Cyprus issue, stating that this development signifies a real momentum to advance the resolution process.

Von der Leyen reiterated the EU's active engagement in this diplomatic endeavor, asserting that the collaboration with the UN will be pivotal in seizing the current opportunity to address the Cyprus situation.
