Nicosia: A barometric low system named Erminio is making its impact felt over Cyprus, bringing with it strong winds and thunderstorms. The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, covering an 8-kilometer range seawards, effective from noon on April 1st to noon on April 2nd, 2026.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the central Mediterranean's Erminio system is affecting the atmospheric conditions over Cyprus. Local showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated, with the possibility of prolonged and intense weather phenomena. The presence of suspended dust is expected to further reduce visibility, which is already predicted to be poor, and at times very poor, throughout the affected period.
The sea surface temperature is currently recorded at 19°C, and the atmospheric pressure at the time of the report's issuance was 1012 hPa. A warning has been issued, numbered 35, which is valid from 9:00 PM local time on April 1st until 5:00 AM local time on April 2nd. The warning indicates that strong, near gale-force winds ranging from northeasterly to southeasterly at 6 to 7 Beaufort are expected to impact the north and west coastal regions. The sea state is predicted to be moderate, with conditions occasionally reaching rough levels.
Residents and maritime operators are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on the weather conditions as the Erminio system progresses.
