ERATOSTHENES Centre and Romanian Space Agency Forge New Research Partnership

Bucharest: The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence at the Cyprus University of Technology and the Romanian Space Agency have formalized their commitment to collaborative research by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement is aimed at enhancing academic and research partnerships, fostering scientific connections between the two organizations.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the agreement outlines plans for executing joint research initiatives, facilitating exchanges of students and academic staff, and developing educational and scientific projects focused on space, geoinformatics, and innovation. Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for organizing joint seminars, lectures, and research activities on mutually relevant topics.

The Memorandum was signed by Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Managing Director of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and Dr. Daniel-Eugeniu Crun?eanu, General Director of the Romanian Space Agency. This marks the start of a strategic partnership anticipated to create fresh opportunities for researchers, students, and scientists in both countries.

The signing ceremony was conducted online on 12 May 2025, coinciding with the ‘SpaceFEST 2025’ event, a significant scientific festival dedicated to space technology, held in Bucharest from 9 to 12 May. During the event, both organizations shared their key activities, and Professor Hadjimitsis introduced the Space Business Incubation Centre ‘Space BIC,’ under the management of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence.
