Nicosia: Gender Equality Commissioner, Josie Christodoulou, met with Egypt’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Mohammed Zaazou, to discuss the ongoing cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt in promoting women’s empowerment. During the meeting, Christodoulou emphasized the success of their collaborative efforts, particularly highlighting the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the two nations in January, which focuses on enhancing women’s economic participation in the tourism industry.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the meeting included discussions about Christodoulou’s visit to Cairo in February, where she explored opportunities to deepen the partnership between Cyprus and Egypt in supporting women’s empowerment. An invitation was extended through Ambassador Zaazou to Amal Ammar, President of Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW), to visit Cyprus, further strengthening ties between the two countries.
Christodoulou provided the Ambassador with insights into her Office’s initiatives, specifically the government’s comprehensive actions to integrate gender perspectives across all policy areas. Zaazou expressed appreciation for the information shared and reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt. He also conveyed his and the embassy’s commitment to supporting the Commissioner’s work in advancing gender equality.
