Warsaw: Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, Dr. Maria Panayiotou, is set to travel to Warsaw to participate in the Informal Council of Environment Ministers, an event organized by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, scheduled for Tuesday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, alongside the Council, Dr. Panayiotou will engage in bilateral meetings with Danish Minister of Environment and Gender Equality, Magnus Johannes Heunicke, and Executive Director of the European Environment Agency, Leena Yl¤-Mononen. Additionally, she will attend a working breakfast of the EU Mediterranean States (MED9), organized by Slovenia.
During the Informal Council, EU Environment Ministers will deliberate on addressing disinformation related to climate and energy transition and the objective of adapting to climate change, with the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency present. Furthermore, a working lunch will feature discussions on promoting environmental innovation to enhance climate change adaptation.
In her meeting with the Danish Environment Minister, Dr. Panayiotou will discuss the water resilience strategy, a priority for the Cyprus Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2026. They will also address the Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), and explore cooperation at both political and technocratic levels in preparation for upcoming Council discussions.
The meeting with the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency will focus on collaboration in European environmental policy, particularly concerning climate change adaptation and water resilience, especially in light of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The EU MED9 Ministers’ working breakfast will concentrate on preparing for the Meeting of the Ministers of Environment and Energy of the EU MED9 next June in Slovenia and the draft Ministerial Declaration on Climate Resilience.
