Energy Ministers of Cyprus and Lebanon Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Nicosia: Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, George Papanastasiou, held a meeting on Monday in Nicosia with Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon, Joseph Saadi, focusing on ways to strengthen energy cooperation between the two states.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Saadi’s working visit to Cyprus takes place following discussions that began last July at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. These discussions occurred in the context of a meeting between the Presidents of Cyprus and Lebanon, Nikos Christodoulides and Joseph Aoun, respectively.

During their meeting, the two Ministers exchanged views on further deepening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on strengthening energy security and developing electricity infrastructure. It was agreed that Cyprus will provide technical assistance and know-how to Lebanon for the modernization of electricity transmission and distribution networks. To improve the efficiency of the relevant infrastructure, it was decided to establish technical teams.

The Lebanese Minister was also received by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides. The meeting of the two Ministers was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Lebanon, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, the member of the Board of the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Lebanon, Dr. Daniel Geha, as well as the Director General, Marios Panayides, and the Directors of the Energy and Hydrocarbon Services of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Charalambos Roussos and Stelios Nikolaides.
