Cairo: Energy Minister Damianos is set to sign a Framework Agreement with Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, for the development of natural gas discoveries in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone. According to Cyprus News Agency, Damianos will travel to Cairo on Sunday evening to join President Nikos Christodoulides in a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This meeting will occur on the sidelines of the EGYPES 2026 international energy exhibition and conference.
The signing of the Framework Agreement will focus on the development of the "Kronos" and "Aphrodite" natural gas fields. In addition to the signing ceremony, Damianos will accompany President Christodoulides to a meeting with TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyann©.
Damianos will also participate in a Ministerial Roundtable Discussion at EGYPES 2026, addressing 'Energy priorities, geopolitical realities and national security'. Other participants will include Egypt's Karim Badawi, Lebanon's Minister of Energy and Water, Joseph Saddi, and Ditte Juul J¸rgensen, Director General of the DG for Energy of the European Commission.
Furthermore, separate meetings are scheduled with Osama Mobarez, General Secretary of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, as well as senior executives from BP, Arcius, and ExxonMobil.
