Nicosia: Dr Georgios P. Georgiou, an Associate Professor of Anatomy and Surgery at the European University of Cyprus and a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, has been appointed by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus as Chair of the 'Diagnosis and Treatment' Subcommittee of the National Committee for the Management of Cardiovascular Diseases. His appointment is set for a three-year term.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Committee is instrumental in implementing the National Strategy for Cardiovascular Diseases, which was approved by the Council of Ministers in September 2025. The Strategy is designed to promote a coordinated and evidence-based approach to the prevention and management of cardiovascular conditions within Cyprus.

Within the Subcommittee's mandate, Dr Georgiou will contribute to developing proposals aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment, as well as enhancing the quality of cardiovascular care. The focus will be on scientific evidence, contemporary medical practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr Georgiou's extensive academic, research, and clinical experience in cardiovascular medicine and surgery underscores the significant contributions of the academic and scientific community to national health policies. His role also highlights the School of Medicine at the European University of Cyprus' continued efforts in advancing medical science, clinical practice, and public health.

Commenting on his appointment, Dr Georgiou stated that assuming the Chairmanship of the 'Diagnosis and Treatment' Subcommittee is both an honor and a responsibility. He emphasized the need for scientific evidence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of the latest advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to manage cardiovascular diseases effectively. The aim is to contribute meaningfully to the implementation of the National Strategy, focusing on improving cardiovascular care and addressing the real needs of patients and the healthcare system in Cyprus.
