Nicosia: The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, Cyta, in cooperation with Connect Europe, organized a workshop addressing the proposal for the new European Digital Networks Act (DNA) and the revision of the Cybersecurity Act.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the workshop gathered representatives from various sectors, including public authorities, telecommunications providers, the business community, European institutions, and Connect Europe. The discussions emphasized the need for a modern and harmonized European framework to encourage investment in fiber-optic networks, 5G, and future 6G networks. The aim is to accelerate the development of innovative digital services, with a particular focus on the spectrum provisions of the Digital Networks Act.

Cyta CEO George Metz¡kis and Director General of Connect Europe, Alessandro Gropelli, welcomed the participants. Commissioner of Communications, Marios Pieris, and Director of Digital Policy and Communications, Kyriaki Pantziarou, also delivered opening remarks. The discussions highlighted the necessity of strengthening the security and resilience of networks through effective measures that are proportionate to the risks, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of critical services.

The seminar placed a strong emphasis on consumer benefits, ensuring that investments and technological advancements translate into improved service quality, greater reliability, higher speeds, and access to a broader range of advanced digital capabilities.

For Cyprus, these discussions are of particular significance as the country has already established advanced telecommunications infrastructure, with a very high capacity network and FTTP coverage reaching 95.5% and 5G coverage at 100%. The press release concludes that a modern and stable European framework is crucial to support ongoing investment in next-generation networks and to enhance the security and resilience of critical infrastructure.
