Rome: Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna visited Rome as part of preparations for Cyprus’ EU Presidency, set for the first half of 2026. During her visit, she engaged in discussions with Italian officials to address various bilateral and regional issues.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Raouna met with Italian Minister for European Affairs Tommaso Foti to update him on the progress of Cyprus’ EU Presidency preparations. They also explored issues of mutual interest as Mediterranean member states, which are anticipated to be key topics during Cyprus’ six-month tenure.
Raouna also provided Foti with the latest developments on the Cyprus issue and the steps towards Cyprus’ full integration into the Schengen Treaty. In a separate meeting with Giulio Terzi, the Chairman of the EU Policies Committee of the Italian Senate, Raouna discussed regional interests, developments in the Middle East, migration, and the New Pact for the Mediterranean.
The visit to Rome precedes Raouna’s scheduled discussions in Paris on Thursday, as part of her ongoing efforts to coordinate for the upcoming presidency.
