Nicosia: The Department of Labour Inspection has announced the lifting of the suspension on outdoor work that had been imposed due to elevated dust concentrations in the atmosphere. This decision comes as a relief to many workers and employers who were affected by the temporary halt in outdoor activities.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department stated in a press release that the previous announcement regarding the termination of outdoor activities, due to high levels of airborne particles (PM10), has been revoked. Despite the resumption of outdoor work, the Department emphasized that it will continue to closely monitor the situation and will issue a new announcement if necessary.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has extended a warning for the African dust episode affecting the region until 18:00 local time. However, a gradual easing of the phenomenon is expected later in the afternoon. Speaking to CNA, Meteorological Officer Andreas Chrysanthou noted that the severe dust episode is subsiding, aided by winds and anticipated rainfall in several areas.
In related news, the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has confirmed that all football games scheduled for Saturday in the Cyprus League by Stoiximan, along with fixtures in the second and third divisions and the STOK Elite Category, will proceed as planned. This decision was made after consulting with the Meteorological Department, which provided forecasts indicating further improvement in conditions by the afternoon.
