Brussels: Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodemos Damianou, is set to travel to Brussels on Thursday to participate in the EU Competitiveness Council, focusing on Research and Space.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the council’s agenda will include a political debate on the interim evaluation results of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The council is also expected to adopt a recommendation on the European Research Area Policy Agenda for 2025-2027 and conclude discussions on the use of Artificial Intelligence in science.
In the space sector, discussions will revolve around the use of space data to enhance resilience, security, and crisis management within the EU. There will also be an emphasis on the broader objective of strengthening the EU’s competitiveness and digital sovereignty.
On the sidelines of the main event, Deputy Minister Damianou is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts. These discussions aim to coordinate and deliberate on vital issues in anticipation of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
