Nicosia: A period of transformation from February 2024 to July 2026 marked significant strategic developments for Cyta, solidifying its position as a key connectivity provider and a catalyst for Cyprus' digital advancement. Through substantial investments in infrastructure and new technology services, Cyta has laid robust foundations for enhanced customer services, economic opportunities, and digital progress in Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, pivotal changes in the institutional framework and legislation governing Cyta's operations included the integration of the Technology and Energy sectors. This strategic move opens new growth avenues, bolsters competitiveness, and broadens Cyta's contributions to both customers and the nation. The Board of Directors' approval of the Corporate Strategy 2025-2027, along with a portfolio of 21 strategic projects, ensures coordinated implementation and systematic monitoring of the organization's priorities.
A landmark project in Cyta's journey was the approval and initiation of the largest business transformation in its history: the modernization of its IT systems. This endeavor aims to enhance system efficiency, simplify customer service, and accelerate service development, ultimately improving customer experiences. Additionally, the accelerated rollout of the fibre optic network, expansion of mobile network capabilities, and bolstered international telecommunications connections have collectively enhanced service speed, reliability, and quality, positioning Cyprus as a regional digital connectivity hub.
Expanding its data center presence through strategic acquisitions further strengthens Cyta's capacity to provide essential digital infrastructure solutions, including data hosting, cloud services, and disaster recovery. Cyta's commitment to integrated technology projects and the strategic incorporation of Artificial Intelligence have resulted in improved services and internal processes.
Critical state projects, such as the upgrade of Air Navigation Services and the transition of the Area Control Centre to Kokkinotrimithia, underscore Cyta's technical competence and reliability as a state partner. The organization's readiness was further enhanced with the completion of senior executive management selection, creation of new ICT and Digital Evolution Directorates, and a revamped recruitment and promotion system.
Cyta's governance framework saw improvements with a focus on transparency and accountability. Initiatives that enhance societal and environmental impacts continued, including the completion of the Holistic ESG Management project, emission reduction efforts, and projects supporting digital inclusion. Financially, Cyta maintained robust performance, with 2025 revenues increasing to £444.2 million from £405.5 million in 2023, and EBITDA reaching £150.6 million. This financial strength supported significant infrastructure investments without bank borrowing, totaling nearly £189 million during 2024-2025.
Overall, the strategic initiatives undertaken from 2024 to 2026 have left Cyta better prepared and poised for future challenges, reinforcing its core telecommunications role while advancing Cyprus' digital infrastructure and technology services.
