Cyta Strengthens Connectivity by Landing BlueMed Cable in Yeroskipos

Yeroskipos: Cyta has successfully landed the BlueMed submarine cable at its landing station in Yeroskipos, marking a significant enhancement in Cyprus’ international connectivity. BlueMed is a project spearheaded by Italian provider Sparkle in collaboration with Google and other global partners. It is a part of a larger submarine cable system that extends connections from Italy through the Mediterranean, reaching the Near East and India. This infrastructure promises high-speed, low-latency, and seamless connectivity between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the BlueMed landing in Cyprus fortifies the nation’s position as a pivotal telecommunications hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. This development facilitates direct connections with Greece, Italy, and other Mediterranean countries, thereby expanding the scope for advancing Cyprus’ digital ecosystem.

Mr. George Metzakis, Chief Commercial Officer of Cyta, expressed that the arrival of BlueMed in Cyprus is a pivotal move towards bolstering the island’s international connectivity, which is expected to attract new investments and foster development opportunities. Meanwhile, Mr. George Malikides, Chief Technology Officer of Cyta, emphasized that Cyta’s integration with BlueMed significantly enhances the island’s digital ecosystem and solidifies Cyprus’ status as a crucial connectivity hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
