CySEC Joins Global Campaign to Enhance Investor Protection

Nicosia:The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) is participating in the World Investor Week 2026 campaign by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), focusing on bolstering investors' financial resilience and guarding against digital deceptions. This global initiative, running from October 5 to 11, involves regulatory authorities and organizations from over 100 countries, with CySEC engaging in various educational and awareness activities.

According to Cyprus News Agency, CySEC's involvement in the campaign marks its eighth consecutive year of participation. Planned activities include educational presentations at schools and universities throughout Cyprus, a social media campaign, television and radio appearances, and the publication of interviews and articles. Additionally, CySEC will release a new Guide for investors and a Smart Investor Handbook to further disseminate the campaign's messages.

The school presentations are part of CySEC's sixth cycle of its lecture programme, emphasizing the campaign's key themes and running from October to December. In previous cycles, CySEC reached 3,450 students across 88 schools, providing crucial financial education.

All materials from the campaign will be accessible through CySEC's Financial Education Portal. CySEC Chairman George Karatzias emphasized the importance of adapting to technological changes and avoiding digital scams. He advised investors to conduct independent research and engage only with licensed professionals to maintain resilience.

IOSCO's campaign highlights themes like Investor Resilience and Digital Deception, encouraging portfolio diversification and recognizing scam warning signs. CySEC's research indicates a need for improved public awareness of online scams. To address this, CySEC has created interactive quizzes to help investors assess their knowledge before making decisions.

CySEC underscores its commitment to financial education as a strategic priority, aligning its efforts with Cyprus's National Strategy for Financial Literacy and Financial Education and the work of Thematic Working Group 4 of the Cyprus Financial Literacy and Education Committee, which it chairs.
