Nicosia: The conviction that Cyprus would join the Schengen Zone in 2026 was expressed by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides. He noted the effort underway to complete everything required from a technical point of view by the end of 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, when asked by a journalist upon his arrival at an event in Nicosia whether Cyprus could join the Schengen Zone and whether any preparations are being made, the President affirmed that “we will join the Schengen Zone in 2026.”
He further explained that significant efforts were being made to finalize all necessary technical requirements by the end of 2025. The aim is to join the Schengen Zone in 2026, which he described as a strategic decision for both the Republic of Cyprus and the EU.
President Christodoulides highlighted the need for the European Parliament’s contribution and expressed satisfaction with the discussions held with the President of the European Parliament, who visited Cyprus for Europe Day. He emphasized that this was a key issue raised in government contacts, especially in light of Cyprus’ upcoming EU Presidency. He plans to visit all Member States and expressed satisfaction with the responses received.
The President assured that all technical tasks would be completed by the end of 2025, enabling Cyprus to join the Schengen Zone in 2026.
