Cyprus to Host Key Conference of European Small State Speakers

Nicosia: The House of Representatives will host the 18th Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of Small States of Europe on the 15th and 16th of September in Nicosia.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the conference will gather the Speakers of the parliaments from Andorra, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Montenegro, and Monaco. Additionally, the Vice-President of the parliament of Malta and representatives of the Co-Presidents of the parliament of San Marino will also attend.

The Conference is set to commence with an opening address from Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, on Monday, 15 September. The agenda will cover topics such as enhancing the connection between parliaments and citizens, exploring challenges and opportunities related to Artificial Intelligence, and discussing best practices for parliaments of small states amid global instability.

Invitations have been extended to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, and Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation, Nikodemos Damianou, to serve as keynote speakers. Cypriot and international experts will also contribute to the discussions on the outlined topics.

During the event, the participating dignitaries will have an audience with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The conference will conclude with the adoption of a Joint Declaration by the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Small States of Europe, followed by a joint press conference.
