Cyprus to Host Board of Peace Meeting for Gaza Reconstruction

Nicosia: A Board of Peace meeting will take place in Cyprus on June 30 and July 1, after a decision taken by the Board, Cyprus government's Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, said on Wednesday in statements after a meeting of the Cabinet.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis stated that the Board of Peace has been established to implement the reconstruction plan for Gaza based on UN Resolution 2803, which the Republic of Cyprus has supported from the outset. Letymbiotis recalled that the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, had participated in the initial conference announcing the plan, presenting a proposal of eight specific points inspired by US President Donald Trump's plan to expedite Gaza's reconstruction.

"The Board of Peace, therefore, decided that this conference will take place in our country. The Republic of Cyprus is neither a co-host nor an organizer of this event," Letymbiotis clarified.

He emphasized the significance of the administrative arm of the Board choosing Cyprus, citing the country's proven track record in humanitarian support to civilians in Gaza. In response to inquiries about participation levels, Letymbiotis mentioned that some officials will be in Cyprus for meetings with Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos. He reiterated that Cyprus being chosen for this meeting is positive and emphasized the importance of keeping the Gaza reconstruction project in focus despite regional developments.

Letymbiotis concluded by affirming that Cyprus could actively participate in the reconstruction project for Gaza through the President's eight-point proposal once the reconstruction process begins.
