Cyprus to Establish 45-Day Grain Reserves Amid Geopolitical Concerns

Frenaros:Cyprus The country is taking steps to secure strategic grain reserves sufficient for 45 days to ensure stability in case of supply chain disruptions, President Nikos Christodoulides announced. This initiative is in addition to the commercial stocks maintained by businesses.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of this measure during an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Mills Hadjigiorkis Museum in Frenaros. He highlighted the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the Black Sea as key factors necessitating increased preparedness and preventive planning.

The President outlined that these strategic reserves will be managed by domestic companies engaged in grain trading and milling through open tender processes. This approach aims to bolster the nation's capacity to handle potential disruptions in the supply of essential goods.

In addition to the grain reserve announcement, Christodoulides revealed that by September 2027, the government plans to finalize decisions on projects worth 3.5 billion pounds for the 2028-2034 period. Of this total, 2.5 billion pounds will be sourced from European funding, with the remaining 1 billion pounds from national resources.

The President also mentioned various projects and policies designed to support the Famagusta district's residents. This includes a strategic development plan featuring over 30 projects, collectively valued at 122 million pounds.
