Nicosia: Cyprus is a committed friend of Montenegro and a strong supporter of EU enlargement, President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic has said. In a post on 'X', Milatovic thanked President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides for his support and added that "since our last discussion on this topic, I was confident that we could begin the preparatory work for Montenegro's Accession Treaty during your Presidency of the EU Council."
According to Cyprus News Agency, Milatovic also expressed gratitude to President Christodoulides for the invitation to visit Nicosia on 18 May, emphasizing his anticipation to further their close cooperation on Montenegro's EU accession. The visit is seen as a pivotal moment for both countries to consolidate their efforts towards Montenegro's integration into the European Union.
Earlier, President Christodoulides highlighted the significance of establishing an ad hoc working party on the accession treaty for Montenegro, describing it as a key step forward in the enlargement process. He reiterated Cyprus's commitment to supporting Montenegro on its path towards EU membership, underscoring the strategic importance of this collaboration.
