New York:The Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus confirmed that the foundation for a Cyprus settlement and the negotiating acquis remain unchanged following discussions in New York. These remarks were made in a social media post reflecting on President Nikos Christodoulides' engagements at the 81st UN General Assembly, where his proposals on the Cyprus issue were positively received by the UN Secretary-General.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during his visit, President Christodoulides held meetings with various international figures, including the UN Secretary-General and other global leaders. The discussions emphasized multilateralism, adherence to international law, and strengthening strategic relations. The Cyprus issue proposals, covering substantive matters and confidence-building measures, were well-received, reinforcing that reunification remains a primary focus.
The mission to New York further showcased Cyprus' global diplomatic reach, highlighting strengthened ties with nations such as China, the UK, Jordan, and the US. Additionally, it focused on regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean and specific energy initiatives with companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil for Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone development.
