Cyprus Sees Mainly Fine Weather Amidst Low Pressure and Unstable Air Mass

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, indicating mainly fine weather with some variations over the next 24 hours. The forecast, valid from noon on August 19, 2026, to noon on August 20, 2026, covers a region extending 8 kilometers seawards from the coast.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the area is currently influenced by seasonal low pressure and an unstable air mass. This weather pattern is expected to result in mainly fine conditions over the coastal areas, with locally increased cloud coverage. Over the eastern part of the region, isolated showers are likely to occur in the evening. As the night progresses and into the following morning, increased low cloud coverage will be present over the coastal regions.

The forecast details indicate that visibility will generally be good but may reduce to moderate or poor levels in misty conditions. The sea surface temperature is recorded at 29°C, and there are no warnings issued for the period.

For the west coast, winds are expected to be from west to northwest at 4 Beaufort, locally increasing to 4 to 5 Beaufort in the afternoon, creating smooth to slight sea conditions. These conditions will transition to northwest to north winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort overnight, gradually shifting near the coast to northwest to northeast at 3 Beaufort. By morning, winds will shift to northeast to southeast at 3 Beaufort, later becoming southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with smooth to slight sea states throughout.

On the south coast, afternoon winds will be southwest to west at 4 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 5 Beaufort, with the sea remaining smooth to slight. Overnight, winds will decrease to northwest to northeast at 3 Beaufort, maintaining smooth to slight sea conditions. In the morning, winds will begin as southeast to southwest at 3 Beaufort, gradually shifting to south to southwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort.

For the east coast, south to southwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort are expected in the afternoon, occasionally reaching 4 Beaufort, with smooth to slight seas. Overnight, winds will change to southwest to northwest at 3 Beaufort. By morning, winds will be southwest to northwest at 3 Beaufort, gradually shifting to southeast to southwest, with sea conditions remaining smooth to slight.

Finally, on the north coast, winds will be southwest to northwest at 4 Beaufort in the afternoon, occasionally increasing to 4 to 5 Beaufort, resulting in smooth to slight seas. Overnight, winds will change to south to southwest at 3 Beaufort, shifting near the coast to southeast to southwest. By morning, southeast to southwest winds at 3 Beaufort will soon shift to southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, maintaining smooth to slight sea conditions.
