Nicosia: Authorities in Cyprus have sought international assistance following the emergence of a video alleging illegal financing of the President's 2023 campaign and controversial investments on the island. The request for foreign expertise comes amid ongoing investigations into the claims.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Cypriot authorities have contacted the USA, Israel, England, and France to request specialized assistance for the investigation. The police are working closely with the island's Law Office to assess all available information.
Former Minister of Energy Giorgos Lakkotrypis, who appears in the video, has provided an official statement to the police, according to the Police Spokesperson who spoke to the Cyprus News Agency. Lakkotrypis has submitted all relevant information, which is now under evaluation by the investigative authorities.
The police are also awaiting scientific reports from the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Service. As of now, there is no information regarding statements from other individuals featured in the video.
Investigations are also focusing on the "X" platform account that posted the video, with efforts underway to trace its origin and any related material. The video purportedly captures conversations between Giorgos Lakkotrypis, Charalambos Charalambous, and Giorgos Chrysochos with a supposed investor from the Netherlands.
