Nicosia: The Republic of Cyprus has reached out to France for military assistance, mirroring support already extended by Greece, as tensions escalate in the region. Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis made this announcement at the Presidential Palace, also discussing recent communications between the Cypriot and UK foreign ministries. The UK Foreign Secretary clarified that the British Bases in Cyprus are not included in discussions with the US concerning the situation with Iran.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis urged the public to remain calm and the media to verify news before dissemination. In a Monday afternoon press briefing, he acknowledged the regional crisis and assured that all necessary measures have been implemented. The National Security Council is actively coordinating with state services to ensure full operational readiness.
Letymbiotis highlighted ongoing coordination with EU and regional partners, noting conversations between the Cypriot President and leaders of Greece and Lebanon to express gratitude and discuss preventive measures. Greece is supporting Cyprus with two navy frigates and F-16 aircraft, while discussions with France continue for similar assistance.

Letymbiotis addressed public concerns about airspace operations and reassured that Cyprus' air defense is fully operational. He also commented on the Treaty of Establishment, which requires Cypriot consent for non-Commonwealth states to use British Bases on the island.
