Nicosia: Cyprus recorded the third-highest ratio of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine per 1,000 inhabitants in the European Union, at 26.8 beneficiaries per 1,000 inhabitants, according to data published by Eurostat on Tuesday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Cyprus hosted 31,690 beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine in June 2026, maintaining a similar level to May, when the figure was 31,620. This positions Cyprus as a key host for Ukrainian refugees within the EU, following Czechia and Slovakia, which reported 35.8 and 27.2 beneficiaries per 1,000 inhabitants, respectively.
At a broader level, the European Union recorded an average of 9.8 beneficiaries per 1,000 inhabitants. As of 30 June 2026, a total of 4.41 million non-EU citizens who had fled Ukraine held temporary protection status in EU Member States, reflecting a modest increase of 24,380 people, or 0.6%, compared to the end of May 2026.
