Cyprus Secures £3.5 Billion for Projects Under New EU Budget

Nicosia: Cyprus is expected to receive approximately £3.5 billion for developmental projects over the next seven years, as announced by President Nikos Christodoulides. This funding comprises £2.5 billion from the European Union and an additional £1 billion from national resources. The announcement followed his meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides shared this information during the inauguration of the upgraded Cultural Centre in Dymes. He highlighted that the EU's 2028-2034 budget was among the key topics discussed with Costa. The President emphasized that the Cabinet would finalize decisions regarding these projects by September 2027.

Christodoulides also revealed that further announcements would be made on September 13. These announcements, developed in collaboration with the private sector, will address initiatives in health, education, the welfare state, and community nursing across all communities.

The President expressed the government's commitment to creating conditions that encourage people to remain or return to their communities. He emphasized the importance of providing services and opportunities that meet modern needs, ensuring equality with urban residents.

Furthermore, Christodoulides highlighted the government's dedication to supporting rural and mountainous areas, framing it as essential for maintaining community life and sustainable development. He noted that economic growth should extend beyond urban centers to benefit all citizens.

The President reiterated the goal of delivering equal services in health, education, and welfare, irrespective of citizens' locations, underscoring the importance of reaching every part of the country for comprehensive national progress.
