Nicosia: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has stressed the need to strengthen cancer prevention efforts and continuously improve policies to tackle the disease, during remarks at Christodoula march, a cancer awareness campaign, held on Saturday in Nicosia.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the President highlighted the enduring symbolism of the annual event, expressing satisfaction with the strong turnout. He noted that the march, now in its 51st year, continues to unite people across the society in support of the fight against cancer.
'Our shared goal must be continuous progress in addressing the disease,' the President said, adding that improvement should be evident each year. He placed particular emphasis on prevention, stressing that 'the most important thing is prevention, and this is where we must invest significantly more.'
Referring to government initiatives, the President pointed to the expansion of screening programmes and the establishment of a National Cancer Institute, which, he said, would play a key role in coordinating services and strengthening research efforts.
'When it comes to health and education, there are no accounting calculations-only investment in the future of our country,' he said.
Christodoulides concluded by urging the public to take part in the march and show support to cancer patients and their families facing the disease.
