Nicosia: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides announced that he has requested no increases be imposed on electricity bills, expressing hope that the electricity authority will respond positively.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the President addressed the issue after being questioned by a journalist at an event in Nicosia. He confirmed that he had sent a ‘strict message’ to both the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) to refrain from raising electricity prices. He mentioned that the meeting addressing this issue was held privately, emphasizing the importance of not increasing prices, particularly at this time.
President Christodoulides stated that such actions are frequently undertaken discreetly, reinforcing his belief that the EAC should not implement any price hikes at this critical moment. He remains hopeful for a favorable response from the electricity authority concerning his appeal.
