Copenhagen: Further strengthening the defence and security of the European Union is a priority for the Republic of Cyprus, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said on Thursday, while referring to a meeting, in Copenhagen, between the President of Cyprus and NATO chief.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis spoke at a media briefing in Nicosia, detailing the engagements of Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, in Copenhagen. On Wednesday evening, the President met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. During their discussion, they explored NATO’s cooperation with the European Union, alongside broader defence and security topics.
Letymbiotis emphasized that enhancing defence and security within the European Union is a top priority for Nicosia, especially during the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This initiative is a central element of the government’s agenda.
Additionally, Letymbiotis mentioned that the European Political Community was convening on Thursday. President Christodoulides was scheduled for bilateral meetings that afternoon, including discussions with the Presidents of Switzerland and Moldova, the Prince of Monaco, and the Prime Minister of Denmark.
The European Political Community’s agenda also includes topics such as strategic autonomy, defence and security enhancement, and immigration issues, which are key priorities for the Christodoulides Government, Letymbiotis concluded.
